Safety Rules for Public Events run by the Wellington Astronomical Society.

Attention is drawn to the safety requirements for events: This is not a complete list, it is an advisory of solar safety set down at a council meeting 20th April 2005.

"In the interests of public safety any telescope used at a WAS authorised day time public event must have an approved, securely attached solar filter, or if solar projection is being used, the setup must include an enclosure that makes it impossible for a member of the public to look through the eye-piece of the telescope. Also signs must be prominently displayed advising the public of the dangers of viewing the Sun." WAS council minutes.

This is a By-law issued under section 11.5 of the WAS constitution.
